Why Knigge - why etiquette?
Knigge and etiquette are not just formal rules, but an expression of our inner attitude and our respect for others. They should serve people, not the other way around. The rules of etiquette are pointless if they are followed for their own sake. Instead, they should be a means of treating each other politely and respectfully from an appreciative attitude.
Adolph Freiherr Knigge emphasized that etiquette rules do not exist as an end in themselves, but serve to promote positive relationships. Long-term successful teamwork is based on mutual respect and appreciation. It is not just about knowing the rules, but also combining them with an inner attitude of openness and appreciation. Only in this way can etiquette become a valuable tool for creating a positive atmosphere.
Respectful cooperation starts with questions:
How does my counterpart behave?
What can I find out about country- or region-specific characteristics?
Do I have a positive attitude towards my counterpart? How can I encourage this?
Do I feel comfortable? What can I do to increase my well-being?
Does my counterpart feel comfortable? How can I help to make everyone feel comfortable?
